Glore Psychiatric Field Trip
The sophomore class toured the Glore Psychiatric Museum in St. Joseph with Ms. Andrushchenko and Mr. Frieling. Students read the novel Flowers For Algernon by Daniel Keyes which explored how life is for an intellectually disabled person and how others perceive and treat those with disabilities. The main character goes through tests and a surgery to “fix” his disability, which is similar to what happened to many of the patients who resided at State Hospital #2 (currently the museum). Mr. Frieling’s psychology class will be studying psychological disorders and used the trip to introduce students to treatments for these disorders throughout history. Thank you to the Glore Psychiatric Museum, Ms. Halee Andrushchenko, and Mr. Derek Frieling for facilitating the event.
