1984 Boys Basketball State Champions Recognized

Ladies and Gentlemen, we would like to take this opportunity to recognize a team that 40 years ago this season brought home an Undefeated State Basketball Championship to Troy High School and to the Troy community. Their accomplishments and success is one that has never been matched and one that will always be the bench mark that all Troy teams will strive to achieve. Known as the “Cardiac Kids”, they moved through the 2A State tournament held in Topeka in the old Municipal Auditorium winning the 3 games by a total of 5 points defeating Quinter 76-74 in the Championship contest. The Trojans were the only high School team in the state of Kansas that year to end the season undefeated at 25-0.

And now for the players:

Bryan Adkins

Jeff Adkins

Mike Goss

Don Huss

Rob Karn

Brian Klaus

John Mike Marriott

Doug Meng

Ken Neumann

Ron Shelton

Robert Sigrist

Mike Wiedmer

And now the coaches,

Assistant Coach Lyle Rockey

Head Coach Kevin Kelley

The accomplishments of this group include being the Highland Tournament Champions, the DVL Tournament Champions, the DVL League Champions, Sub-State Champions and in the end, 2A Kansas State High School Boys Basketball Champions. In August 2008, the 1984 Championship team was inducted into the KSHSAA Hall of Fame.

Congratulations again and thank you for the memories and pride that you have brought to this town and to Troy High School.
